Earwax Removal Clinics in Oxford
Why Do We Have Earwax?
Ear wax (medical name cerumen) is made by natural glands of the outer two thirds of the ear canal. It helps protect the ear by moisturising the skin in the ear canal, thus providing a physical barrier against infection, and by being acidic it has antibacterial properties. This is natures way of protecting your ear and can not be manipulated medically.

Because it is sticky, it helps to catch dust, pollen and small insects and prevent them from establishing themselves in your ears! The skin in your ear canal grows differently to the skin that covers the rest of our body, and grows along the ear canal from the ear drum to the canal entrance. It acts like a conveyor belt, bringing the ear wax, and any dust, pollen or other debris with it, out of the ear. This way, the ear canal cleans thenselves naturally. However, sometimes the natural body functions go “Out of Sync” and too much wax is produced, so it can cause a temporary blockage of the ear canal.

When this occurs it is sometimes necessary to intervene and have some of the earwax removed manually. You should not do this yourself as you can cause further irrepairable damage by “Poking around” inside your ears with cotton buds and the like, or even worse push the wax further in to the ear and cause an “Impaction” which is then even harder to remove.

The earwax removal Network clinic in Oxford

At our specialist Microsuction earwax removal Clinic in Oxford we use a procedure known as Microsuction which is a medically approved procedure which uses gentle suction to remove excessive or troublesome earwax. It is performed with the aid of an operating microscope and a finely calibrated suction device, without the introduction of any materials or liquids.

When you Make a pre- arranged appointment for earwax removal you may be asked to use olive oil spray or drops for several days beforehand. This is desigend to make the treatment easier for you.

The Microsuction earwax removal technique involves the audiologist wearing a microscope and a high power light in front of his eyes so that they can always see what they are doing and can avoid touching the skin of the sides of the ear canal which makes the process a lot more comfortable.

The Microsuction instrument then slowly removes any excess or impacted earwax from the ear canal to clear a natural passage in the canal so that you can hear again.
